Sfaxien defeat Ahly Benghazi 1-0 on Friday to qualify for the African Champions League semi-final

Tunisian side Sfaxien reached the African Champions League semi-final on Friday with one match to spare in the group strage after beating Libya's Ahly Benghazi 1-0.

Ferjani Sassi scored the winner seven minutes past the hour mark with a low shot from inside the area as Sfaxien continued their bid to win Africa's coveted club trophy for the first time in their history, having gone the closest when they lost to Egypt's Ahly in the 2006 final.

They top Group with 10 points from five matches, two ahead of Algeria's ES Setif who will join them in the last four if they beat or draw with Tunisia's Esperance in the other group match on Saturday.

Benghazi, who are third on four points, lost hopes of going through while Esperance, who lie at the bottom with three points, must win their remaining two matches to stand a chance of reaching the semis.

Friday's match was played in Tunis due to security concerns in the turmoil-stricken Libya.
