Ahly’s technical staff is delighted after the pivotal 1-0 win over Zambia’s Zesco United in the second leg of CAF African champions league round of 16 and will reward the players for their effort in the game.
“We earned the victory as our players dominated the whole game. We will reward them for their determination and good performance,” Ahly’s football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz was quoted as saying by the club official website.
The Cairo giants won in aggregate to qualify for the group stage as the first-leg ended with a goalless draw in Zambia.
The Red Devils suffered the absence of key elements, such as Mohamed Abou Treika, Mohamed Fadl, Ahmed Shokry, Emad Meteb and Hossam Ghaly, according to Abdel-Hafiz.
“We had limited choices for the game, as we were short many players due to injuries and suspension,” the former Ahly star explained.
It was reported that that the second leg game was cancelled by the referee because of the fireworks that were lit, mostly by Ahly supporters in the second half, aiming to hurt one of ZESCOS’ players, which the football director denies.
“We asked the supporters to stop the fireworks after a warning from the match officials,” he concluded.
