Everton's Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto'o is expected to complete his transfer to Sampdoria after undergoing a medical with the Italian Serie A club on Saturday.

Television pictures showed Eto'o arriving for the tests earlier in the afternoon and then smiling as he waved to fans while departing the Villa Stuart medical clinic in Rome several hours later.

Sampdoria, who sit fourth but are level on points with Napoli, are one of several teams hoping to battle for a third place finish and possible Champions League spot, have yet to make any official statement regarding the 33-year-old.

However Eto'o is expected to complete the move on Sunday. Club president Massimo Ferrero signed four players on Friday including Udinese marksman Luis Muriel and said: "Today I have brought you four pearls and maybe tomorrow there will be another."

If confirmed, it means a return to Italy for Eto'o, who enjoyed huge success with Inter Milan during his spell with the club in 2009-2011, including winning the treble of league, Cup and Champions League in 2010 under former coach Jose Mourinho.

Sampdoria are 13 points behind leaders Juventus ahead of the defending champions' home game against Verona on Sunday.
