Egypt's Ahly have been drawn in the African Champions League quarterfinals in the same group as Tunisia's Esperance, Algerian side Mouloudia and the winner of the decider between Morroco’s Wydad Casablanca and Tanzania’s Simba. The match is being played after DR Congo’s Mazembe were disqualified from the competition for fielding an ineligible player.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) also held the Confederation Cup last 16 draw in their Cairo offices on Sunday.

It will be a tough journey for Ahly who will play their first match between 15-17 July, giving them little chance of a respite after the end of the Egyptian Premier League season on 9 July.

“The competition will be rough as we will meet strong teams, but we eye the title so we have to do our best,” Ahly football director, Sayed Abdel-Hafiz was quoted as saying in the club's official website.

Ahly reached the last eight after defeating ZESCO United of Zambia 1-0 on aggregate.

The other group pits together Sudanese side Al-Hilal, Cameroon’s Cotonsport, Nigeria’s Enyimba and Morocco’s Raja’a.

The Confederation Cup last 16 draw:
Entente Setif (Algeria) Vs. Kaduna United (Nigeria)
JS Kabylie (Algeria) Vs. Diaraf (Senegal)
Club Africain (Tunisia) Vs. Sofapaka FC (Kenya)
Ittihad (Libya) Vs. Sun Shine (Nigeria)
ZESCO United (Zambia) Vs. Maghreb de Fes (Morocco)
Motema Pembe (DR Congo) Vs. Loser of Wydad Casablanca (Morocco) and Simba (Tanzania)
ASEC Mimosas (Ivory Coast) Vs. CD 1 de Agosto (Angola)
