Ethiopia's national team coach Mariano Barreto revealed that he is confident that his side will reach the 2017 African Cup of Nations finals in Gabon despite having to face top side Algeria for the second time in the tournament qualifiers.
Ethiopia, who were at the bottom of the AFCON 2015 qualifiers in Group B, with no points after losing all their three games- 2-1 to Algeria, 3-2 to Malawi and 2-0 to Mali- will play in Group J against Algeria, Lesotho and Seychelles in the 2017 qualifiers
"As you know we have now a new generation of players and of course a new team," Barreto told Supersport after the draw.
"These young boys have now 6/8 matches in their legs, and little more experience. I think we are better than when I arrived last year. So we have good chance to qualify for Afcon 2017," he added.
"It will not be an easy ride but I believe the players are hungry for success and with good preparations nothing is impossible,” Barreto said.
Algeria is one of the groups top teams as they led their group in the last edition.
"Having a top side like Algeria in our group is a motivation because last year we learnt from our mistakes and we know where we went wrong. This is the time to make amends and reach Gabon by working very hard collectively," Ethiopia's coach said.
Walias made their last appearance in the African Cup of Nations in 2013 after their absence for 31 years.
