Mouloudia Alger were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Esperance of Tunisia in the opening game of their CAF Champions League group stage on Saturday.
Midfielder Osama Darragi put Esperance ahead after eight minutes, but Mouloudia Alger defender Megherbi Mohamed leveled the score nine minutes later to help his side avoid a home defeat.
Six-time African champions and Egyptian league winners Ahly host Morocco's Wydad Casablanca in the other Group B game on Sunday at Cairo's Military Academy Stadium. The match will be played behind closed doors after the Red Devils were fined for the excessive use of fireworks by their fans during the preliminary round game against Zambia's ZESCO United.
In Group A, Moroccan outfit Raja Casablanca were held to a goalless home draw by Cameroon's Coton Sport in Saturday's late kick-off. Nigeria's Enyimba take on Hilal of Sudan in the other group match on Sunday.
