Gabon beat Mozambique 4-3 on penalties to reach the group stage of the Africa World Cup qualifiers

Gabon became the first team to reach the group stage of the African World Cup qualifiers after beating Mozambique 4-3 on penalties in the second leg of the qualifiers on Saturday.

The Panthers defeated Mozambique 1-0 to end the tie on a 1-1 draw on aggregate.

Ahly striker Malick Evouna gave the hosts an early lead only two minutes from the start through a showpiece inside the area when he received a low centre from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and tricked the Mozambique's defense to score the game's only goal.

After regular and extra time, the tie was still deadlocked.

Gabon advanced to the third and final round of the qualifiers after winning the penalty shootout 4-3.

The group stage of the African World Cup qualifiers to start in October 2016.
