Mamelodi Sundwons striker Katlego Mphela is reportedly undergoing a trial at Celtic who want to have a closer look at the player before signing him.

"I can confirm that Mphela has an offer for a trial with Glasgow Celtic. I passed the letter of invitation on to Sundowns in the last 24 hours," said Mphela's agent Glyn Binkin to Sky Sports.

‘’Clubs like that want to be able to see the player before signing. Katlego's an unknown quantity in Europe. He played there before but didn't quite make it the first time, so clubs want him to come on trial first," Binkin added.

The 26-year-old striker played for the French side Strasbourg between 2004 and 2006 but he returned home after failing to establish himself in the French League, playing 24 games without scoring.

The international striker was in performance form for the Bafana Bafana during the African qualifiers, helping them to top their group and put them in pole position for the 2012 African Cup of Nations.

Mphela is seen now as a national hero after scoring a last-gasp killer against Egypt 1-0 last March to knock the seven-time African champions out of the race.
