Ahly are likely to miss in-form striker Dominique Da Silva when they meet Esperance in an anticipated CAF Champions League clash in Tunisia on 30 July.

The Mauritanian burly frontman has an abdominal strain that could rule him out of Ahly’s second group stage tie after they were held to a thrilling 3-3 home draw by Moroccoan outfit Wydad Casablanca.

“Ahly’s medial team is doing its best to help Dominique recover in time for the match, but it will be difficult,” doctor Walid Abdel-Baky said on the club’s official website on Friday.

Dominique, who joined Ahly last January, produced some superb displays lately to earn a regular place in the team’s starting line up.

He scored a remarkable goal in the dying minutes as Ahly salvaged a 2-2 Cairo derby draw with arch rivals Zamalek, a result which eventually helped the Red Devils claim a seventh successive Egyptian Premier League.

The 21-year-old gave Ahly a 3-2 lead over Wydad with 15 minutes remaining in last week’s match at Cairo’s Military Academy Stadium but the visitors secured a share of spoils two minutes from time.

Esperance reached last season’s Champions League final at the expense of six-time winners Ahly, beating them on the away goal rule following a 2-2 aggregate draw.
