Egypt’s Ahly team may miss the services of Brazilian striker Fabio Junior against Mouloudia Alger, in the CAF Champions League group stage on 28 August, due to injury.
Portuguese coach Manuel Jose was obliged to replace the 28-year-old attacker in the last minutes of the Red Devils 2-1 friendly win over Ittihad El-Shorta on Monday, when he incurred an ankle injury.
“The player will take a two-day break from training and then we will determine if he will be fit for the game or not,” Ahly’s doctor Ihab Aly was quoted as saying by Egyptian media on Tuesday.
The six-time African champions, Ahly, were also facing the danger of losing their international striker Emad Meteb, who was suffering from a minor knee injury, but the recent medical tests show that he will be ready for the game.
Meteb notched a brace in the first half of the Ahly vs. Mouloudia first leg game, helping his side to claim their first group-stage 2-0 win at Cairo Stadium early this month.
Ahly, who are third place in group B with four points, one behind Moroccan’s Wydad and Tunisian Esperance, will have to beat their hosts Mouloudia in the second leg to ensure their qualification for the coming round.
