“The federation decided to sack [Bertrand] Marchand,” Tunisian Football Association (TFA) spokesman Mondher Chaouachi told Reuters Wednesday without disclosing the reason.
Tunisia have been struggling in the African Cup of Nations (ACN) 2012 qualifiers and conceded a stunning 1-0 defeat to Botswana in November.
Marchand, the 57-year old French tactician, was under fire by the media since the defeat but his job seemed safe.
The decision comes as a surprise, especially that no official statement has been given.
Some local media reports have already suggested that TFA officials are in talks with Fawzi Benzerti who has been sacked by Tunisian giants Esperance after conceding a humiliating defeat to TP Mazembe (6-1 on aggregate) in the CAF Champions League Final.
The Carthage Eagles will resume their qualifiers campaign in June when they’ll host Chad.
