Fabrice Ondama struck late as Wydad Casablanca secured a 2-1 victory at home to ASEC Mimosas on Sunday to reach the African Champions League semis along with ZESCO United, condemning Egypt’s Ahly to a group-stage exit.

The Congolese striker buried home a rebound after a shot was parried into his path in stoppage time as Wydad ensured their progress to the last four with one match to spare.

Abdeladim Khadrouf put the hosts in front in the 59th minute after finishing off a breakaway following an assist from the in-form Ondama.

Ivory Coast’s ASEC equalised 10 minutes later when Yannick Zakri found the bottom corner with a low shot from outside the area but Ondama had the last word to send Wydad through as they top Group A with 10 points.

Zambia’s ZESCO, who held Ahly to a 2-2 away draw on Friday, are second on eight points and the Egyptian champions, who have five points, cannot leapfrog them even if they beat bottom side ASEC in their last game because of an inferior head-to-head record.

Ahly won the last of their record eight African Champions League  titles in 2013.
