The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Ethiopian referee Bamlak Tessema Weyesa to officiate the first leg of the African Champions League final between Egypt's Ahly and Morocco's Wydad Casablanca.

The important match is scheduled for Saturday 28 October at Alexandria’s Borg El-Arab stadium, one day earlier than the date previously requested by the Cairo giants.

The Moroccan team has yet to determine the date of the return leg match, which will be played in Casablanca on 3, 4, or 5 November.

Ahly requested greater fan attendance for the Alexandria match after they gained momentum from the 50,000 fans attending their semifinal home game Sunday.

The Reds hold the record for African Champions League trophies, having won eight times.

Their place in the final was sealed with a 7-4 win on aggregate over Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.

After losing 2-1 in Sousse early in October, Ahly came back to crush the Tunisians at Alexandria's Borg El-Arab Stadium, prevailing 6-2 to comfortably secure final berth for the first time since winning the title in 2013.

Wydad Casablanca sealed their qualification for the final with an aggregate 3-1 victory over Algeria's U.S.M. Alger.
