Nigeria’s coach Stephan Keshi is considering recalling Yakubu Ayegbeni after his fine performances with Blackburn Rovers

Nigeria boss Stephan Keshi revealed on Wednesday his intention to recall Blackburn’s striker Yakubu Ayegbeni if he maintains his current fine form in the English Premier League.

The 29-year-old striker bagged four goals in Blackburn’s win over Swansea City on Saturday to take his tally to nine league goals so far this season.

“Only the best players will make my team, no matter what anyone thinks. I will pick Yak on form to play for Nigeria if he keeps scoring in the English League. I want to win matches and only the fittest in Europe and Nigeria can deliver results for me," Keshi was quoted as saying by KickOff.

Yakubu has fallen out of favour with the Super Eagles since being deemed responsible for the team’s disappointing displays at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where they failed to go beyond the group stage after collecting only one point from three games.

He was particularly blamed for firing wide with the goal at his mercy during Nigeria’s World Cup game against South Korea although he made amends after converting a penalty.
