Auxerre’s Moroccan midfielder charged on Sunday that assistant referee Johann Perruaux had insulted him with a racial slur before his exclusion from Auxerre’s Saturday defeat at the hands of Brest, adding that he planned to pursue the matter as far as possible.

The Moroccan midfielder was sent off in minute 55 of the Auxerre-Brest game following a spat with the assistant referee that cost him two consecutive yellow cards.

“I went to the linesman to tell him that I deserved a foul, but he answered with ‘piss off, Arab.’ I told the referee what happened, for which I received a yellow card. I insisted I had not insulted his assistant, but I received a second yellow card and was sent out of the game,” Kamel Chafni told French magazine l’Equipe.

“I hope the French League investigates this case,” he concluded.
