Ghanaian young star Andre Ayew plays down Abedi Pele comparison

Olympique de Marseille’s winger Andre Ayew confirmed on Thursday that there is still a huge distance between him and his father the Ghanaian legend Abedi Pele.

“I am nowhere close to what my Dad achieved and so I feel the good people must not compare me to him at all,” Ayew was quoted as saying by Ghana Soccer.

After producing fine performances with the French giant Olympique de Marseille in the French League and with the Black stars, several foot figures like German legend Franz Beckenbauer linked him to a comparison with his father three-time Afican footballer of the Year.

“He did a lot for both Ghana and Marseille but I just want to improve match after match, season after season and that is for me what is important.

“Every player wants to do well but I think the talk of comparing me to my Dad is well wide of the mark,” he concluded.

Ayew has been named in the shortlist of the 2011 African Player of the year but Yaya Toure snapped the title.
