Ethiopia stun Cote d'Ivoire, Morocco thrash Burundi in Nations Cup qualifiers

Ethiopia claimed a surprising 2-1 win at home over Cote d'Ivoire in the 2021 Nations Cup qualifiers on Tuesday.

Tottenham fullback Serge Aurier gave the visitors an early lead after four minutes but the hosts responded with two quick goals.

Surafel Dagnachew leveled the score in the 16th minute and Shimeles Bekele, who plays for Egyptian side Maqassa, scored the winner 10 minutes later.

Ethiopia and Cote d'Ivoire have three points each, on level with Group K leaders Madagascar who will face Niger later on Tuesday.

In Group E, Morocco thrashed Burundi 3-0 away to top the Group with four points.

Ajax defender Noussair Mazraoui opened the scoring in the 27th minute and Leganes striker Youssef En-Nesyri doubled the lead six minutes before the break.

Borussia Dortmund winger Achraf Hakimi completed the rout seven minutes from time.

Mauritania will host Central African Republic in the other match of the group later on Tuesday.
