South Africa booked their place in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Friday after defeating Ghana on penalties following an exciting 2-2 draw in the third place play-off of the U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The young Bafana Bafana were the better side throughout and went ahead after 15 minutes via an own goal from Habib Mohammed but Evans Mensah brought Ghana level early in the second half.

Kamohelo Mahlatsi restored South Africa's advantage on 62 minutes but were guilty of missing some easy chances and were punished five minutes from time when Samuel Obeng equalized.

The game went directly to penalties and South Africa won in the sudden death to become Africa's third representatives at next year's Olympic Games after Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire, who meet in the Nations Cup final later on Friday.
