Malawi’s football federation says it will lodge a complaint with the Confederation of African Football after one of its players had to be substituted after he was hit by an object thrown by fans during the team’s 3-2 loss to Chad in African Cup of Nations qualifying.

Malawi striker Atusaye Nyondo was injured when the crowd starting throwing water bottles and other objects onto the pitch in the late stages of Wednesday’s match.

Nyondo had scored both goals for Malawi.

The Malawi federation’s vice president, Moses Mkandawire, said “we are lodging an official complaint with CAF,” adding that the incident was “unacceptable.”
