Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel are close to appointing veteran coach Roger Lemerre as their new boss for a third stint, local media reported on Tuesday.

The reports said that Lemerre had accepted an offer from Etoile to become their new coach, less than eight months after leaving them for personal reasons.

Etoile have recently sacked Spanish coach Juan Carlos Garrido following a string of poor results.

Lemerre guided France to the 2000 Euro title before steering Tunisia to the Africa Cup of Nations trophy in 2004.

The 78-year-old was in charge of Etoile on two occasions in 2013 and 2019.

Etoile will face Moroccan side Wydad de Casablanca at the end of this month in the African Champions League quarter-finals.
