Just when Qatar looked to have forced an extra time when Mohammed Muntari brought them level with a bullet header seven minutes into the additional time, Youcef Belaili gave Algeria remarkable victory.

He fired home on the rebound after his initial spot-kick was parried by the keeper into his path.

Algeria were awarded what looked a soft penalty after Yacine Brahimi fell under the slightest of contacts in the area.

Qatar striker Almoez Ali wasted two chances early on but Algeria then assumed control, piling on pressure and creating openings.

Defender Djamel Benlamri gave Algeria the lead in the 59th minute with a powerful volley from the edge of the area after Qatar keeper Saad Al Sheeb had pushed a corner into his path.

Muntari restored parity when he outjumped his marker to send a header in off the post. The referee checked a video replay for an alleged foul in the build-up but confirmed his decision to award the goal.

But Belaili had the last word as Algeria set up a mouthwatering final against North African rivals Tunisia, who defeated Egypt 1-0 via a last-gasp own goal earlier in the day.
