Petro beat Wydad to go top, Sundowns held by Merreikh in Champions League

Angolan side Petro Atletico beat Morocco's Wydad Casablanca 2-1 on Saturday to go top of the African Champions League Group D.

Azalea gave Petro Atletico a 41st-minute lead as the hosts dominated the first half. 

Wydad upped their game after the interval and Galal Daoudi scored the equaliser from a free kick in the 59th minute.

However, Petro Atletico were back on top again after just nine minutes as Yano scored the winner to give them all three points.  

Petro Atletico are now top of Group D with four points, one ahead of Wydad after two games. Zamalek, who have one point, face Angola's Sagrada Esperance in the other group game later in the day.  

In Group A, Mamelodi Sundowns were held to a goalless draw by Sudanese giants Merreikh in Cairo draw but the South Afican side remain top of the group with four points after two games.

Egypt's Ahly, winners of the previous two editions, are second on one point and have a game in hand against Merreikh.
