“The appointment is with immediate effect and is subject to the signing of agreed terms between the NFF and Mr. Peseiro,” read a statement on the NFF’s official Facebook page.

The 62-year-old coach boasts a vast coaching career across four different continents, with his most notable work being with Porto of Portugal and Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia.

Peseiro also had a short spell with Egyptian giants Ahly in the 2015/16 season before leaving for Porto in January 2016.

Most recently, he was in charge of the Venezuelan national team before quitting in August.

“Peseiro is expected to lead out the Super Eagles for the first time during the upcoming tour of the US, during which, the three-time African champions will slug it out with Mexico and Ecuador’s ‘A’ Teams in prestigious friendlies,” the statement added.

“The Eagles will tango with the El-Tri at the AT & T Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, 28 May before flying to New Jersey to confront Ecuador at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison on Thursday, 2 June,” The NFF concluded.
