Ex-French youth international Mbeumo to represent Cameroon ahead of 2022 World Cup

The Cameroon Football Federation announced on Friday that Brentford and ex-French youth international forward Bryan Mbeumo will represent the Indomitable Lions ahead of the 2022 World Cup.

“This decision results from the culmination of the exchanges nourished with the president of the Federation,” president of the Cameroon Football Federation Samuel Eto’o was quoted as saying on Friday.

The 22-year-old, who is of Cameroonian descent, made 10 appearances with France’s national team at the U17, U20 and U21 levels.

Mbeumo is expected to be a great boost for Cameroon in the 2022 World Cup, which will take place in Qatar from 21 November till 18 December.

The Indomitable Lions have been drawn in Group G of the World Cup finals alongside Switzerland, Serbia, and Brazil.

Mbeumo started his football career with French side Troyes in 2016 before joining English Premier League team Brentford in the summer of the 2019 season.

He made 134 appearances with Brentford, scoring 32 goals and providing 28 assists.
