DR Congo champions TP Mazembe were ecstatic over their 2-0 win over Egyptian side Zamalek on Saturday in the CAF Champions League group stage.

"We defeated a very powerful team. Zamalek is a major club. They were a very tough opponent in the first half," Mazembe's Senegalese coach Lamine Ndiaye said at a post-match press conference.

"We were forced to change our tactics in the second half, after which we had the upper hand and dominated the match," he added.

Ngandu Kasongo and Mbwana Samata both scored for the Congolese team on home soil in Lubumbashi, bolstering their CAF Champions League trophy bid.

TP Mazembe now share the same number of points with Ghana's Berekum Chelsea , 4, who lost away 1-4 to Egypt’s Ahly on Sunday. Undefeated Ahly currently lead Group B with nine points, while Zamalek remain at the bottom with zero points.

"Despite the victory, we're still not sure about our qualification. I'm hoping we can do it," Ndiaye concluded.
