Morocco s Wydad Casblanca coach Sven Vandenbroucke
"Ahly have the upper hand due to the presence of their fans and playing at home. I wish to win 5-0, but realistically coming out with a draw or losing by one goal difference will be a positive result for us," said the Belgian tactician during the pre-game conference.
Vandenbroucke acknowledges that both teams have demonstrated their dominance in reaching the final, confirming that they are among the best clubs in Africa. "The rate at which both teams have reached the Champions League final in recent years confirms that they both are among the best clubs on the continent," he added.
Vandenbroucke stressed that Ahly have a robust offense, but both teams are equal in defense. The Red Devils have scored 24 goals so far in the competition as the best attack in the competition.
"Ahly have two very talented wingers, and I monitored them well. {Midfielder} Marwan Atteya is a very unique and crucial player," he added.
Vandenbroucke also lamented the absence of Abdullah Haimoud, who will miss the game after undergoing surgery earlier this week, but said he is confident in the rest of the squad.
Wydad claimed their third Champions League title last year after defeating Ahly 2-0 in a single-match format. However, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has decided to revert to the two-legged format starting from this season. The first leg will take place in Cairo on Sunday, with the return leg scheduled for Casablanca a week later.
