Coach Roberto Mancini said on Monday that Manchester City’s Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor will not play with the club this season.

''I am sorry for him because he is here and not playing,' Mancini told British newspaper the Daily Mail.

''But he has no chance of playing this season for us.''

The 28-year-old striker signed a five year contract with the Citizens in the summer of 2009, but he was dropped from the team's squad for next season, after they hired strikers Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero.

Adebayor signed a six-month loan deal with Spanish giants Real Madrid in January 2011, before penning a one-year loan deal with Tottenham the last summer.

Despite scoring 17 goals in 33 matches with Tottenham the last season, Adebayor failed to convince Mancini to reserve a place with the Premier League’s champions this season.

''It’s important for him that he can find a good solution because he scored a lot of goals last season and he’s a top striker. ''

''I hope for him he can find a good solution very quickly,' Mancini concluded.
