CAF announce prizes for inaugural African Football League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) revealed on Monday that the champion of the inaugural African Football League (AFL) will walk away with a substantial $4 million prize, matching the reward earned by the winner of the Champions League.

The AFL organizing committee convened a meeting with the eight participating teams to iron out the competition's finer details, and they subsequently released the official prize breakdown. Egyptian giants Ahly reported these details on their website following the meeting.

The draw for the first-ever AFL edition took place on 2 September, setting the stage for a tournament that is scheduled to kick off on 20 October and conclude on 11 November.

While CAF officials have unveiled an impressive prize pool of $10 million for the new competition, the exact sum and its distribution have yet to be finalized.

Winner : $ 4 million
Runner up: $ 2.8 million
Semi-finalists: $ 1.7 million
Quarter-finalists: $ 900,000
