Algeria were among the candidates to replace Guinea as the host for the 2025 tournament, along with Morocco, Zambia, and the joint bid of Nigeria and Benin.

Guinea were stripped of its hosting rights for the continental competition due to concerns raised by CAF regarding the country's infrastructure.

Algeria had also submitted a bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations but has now withdrawn from hosting that edition as well.

A statement released on the FAF's official website on Tuesday read, "The Algerian Football Federation (FAF) has officially withdrawn from the race to host the 2025 and 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. We are now focusing on the reorganization and revitalization of football in the country."

For the 2027 event, the remaining candidates in the hosting race are Senegal, Egypt, Botswana, and a combined bid from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

Algeria previously hosted the Africa Cup of Nations in 1990, when they won their first continental title.
