The win propelled Burkina Faso into second place in Group A with four points.

Trailing group leaders Egypt by two points, Burkina Faso now sits ahead of Guinea-Bissau, who also have four points with a similar goal difference.

The opening goal came from Pyramids FC midfielder Ibrahim Blati Touré in the 69th minute. Aston Villa winger Bertrand Traoré then doubled the lead from the penalty spot nine minutes later, and Bournemouth winger Dango Ouattara sealed the victory with a goal in the final minute.

The Stallions began their quest with a disappointing 1-1 home draw against Guinea-Bissau on Friday. Their next World Cup qualifier will be an away game against group leaders Egypt in June.

On the other hand, Ethiopia, currently sitting fifth in the group, started their World Cup qualification campaign with a goalless draw against Sierra Leone. They are scheduled to face Guinea-Bissau in June.

Seven-time African champions Egypt currently lead Group A with a perfect record of six points from their opening two games, sending a strong warning to their opponents.

Direct qualification for the 2026 World Cup will be secured by the winners of each of the nine groups, while the best runner-up across all groups will have a chance to advance through a playoff round.
