The coach of title holders Zambia is confident that his team will reach next year's Nations Cup finals following a narrow win over Uganda

Herve Renard

Zambia's coach Herve Renard believes his side will be able to qualify for the Nations Cup despite their unconvincing 1-0 home win over Uganda in the first leg of the qualifiers' final round.

Skipper Chris Katongo notched up the winner after 17 minutes in Lusaka to hand Zambia a slim advantage ahead of the second leg next month.

''We won our African title away from home. We can win in Kampala. We know the game will be difficult. But we will go there and we will do it. The target for us is to go to the South Africa finals. Yes, l am confident we will do it," Renard told CAF Online.

The French coach said he was not worried over his side's lack of efficiency after his players wasted several goal-scoring opportunities.

"This is football. Sometimes it is like that. I laugh many times at what can happen in football. We did what we could. But I know we will be stronger in Kampala," he added.

"I'm not happy with this result, but one important thing is that we did not concede a goal here. which is very positive."
