Tunisian CS Sfaxien have re-signed right-back Hamza Mathlouthi on a two-year deal after the 32-year-old ended a five-year spell with Egyptian giants Zamalek.

Mathlouthi, who joined Zamalek in 2020 from Sfaxien, made 153 appearances for the Cairo club, scoring five goals and providing six assists.

He also helped them win six domestic titles, including two Egyptian Premier League crowns.

The defender, capped by Tunisia, struggled with injury last season after rupturing his cruciate ligament during a league match against Modern Sport in January. He featured 14 times in the campaign before his contract expired in June.

Sfaxien confirmed the deal on Sunday as the club seeks to strengthen its squad, having earned only four points from its first four matches in the Tunisian league.

They also recently brought back former Ahly left-back Ali Maaloul on a free transfer.

Sfaxien will face Club Africain on 12 September in the fifth round of the domestic competition.
