The Ivory Coast Football Association (IFA) has delayed the kick off of the Ivorian Premier League 2011, scheduled for 5 March, for security reasons.
“We are concerned about the serious situation in the country. If things go better we will decide to resume our activity. We will give a two-week prior notice for all clubs to prepare themselves,’’ Sory Diabate, president of the Professional League, was quoted as saying on the IFA website.
The Professional League Council met with teams officials Wednesday before reaching that decision.
The teams couldn’t train nor secure their players’ safety during transportation, according to the statement released, because of violent incidents that have been shaking the country since disputed elections on 28 November 2010.
