Ghana midfielder Christian Atsu has escaped unhurt from a serious accident in which his car was completely destroyed.

"The accident happened as the player attempted to overtake another car to exit the Amial highway in Porto. He hit the metal railings flipping over several times before landing on the Fiat Punto," GHANAsoccernet.com announced on Monday.

The 21-year-old midfielder had been battling an ankle injury until he returned to action on 8 April.

The Ghana and Porto star has been recently chased by English Premier League side Tottenham after his superb performance in the Champions League.

The 2010-2011 best young player for FC Porto, Atsu has been named as a nominee for the 2012 Golden Boy Award, given to the best European footballer under the age of 21.
