West Bromwich Albion coach Steve Clarke has asked the club's chairman to extend the contract of Congolese midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu.

The 26-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with the Baggies, but the club are looking to tie him down to new deal.

"Youssouf has been excellent for us since I have been here and is one of the players we want to keep," Clarke was quoted as saying by Sky Sports on Sunday.

"I think come the summer the ones that we have to keep - that I want to keep - will still be at the club." he added.

Serie A side Fiorentina are reportedly interested in acquiring Youssouf's services.
