Asamoah Gyan's brace helped Ghana top Group D of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers after a 3-1 away win over Sudan on Friday.

Gyan opened the scoring in the 19th minute but Mudathir El-Tahir brought Sudan level seven minutes later.

Ghana captain Gyan restored his side's advantage on the hour mark before Sulley Muntari ensured the win one minute from time.

Ghana are leading Group D with 9 points, two ahead of second-placed Zambia who face Lesotho (two points) on Saturday. Sudan lie at the bottom with a solitary point.

in Group I, Libya failed to make home advantage count after being held to a 0-0 draw by the Democratic Republic of Congo in the first international game to be held in Tripoli since 2010.

The Mediterranean Knights wasted a great early chance when captain Ahmed Osman saw his penalty saved by Congo DR keeper Robert Kidiaba.

A drive from substitute Mohamed El Gadi with ten minutes left finished just off target in a Group I qualifier that produced few scoring chances at the national stadium.

The result was the same as the first match between the countries in Kinshasa three months ago, and a massive disappointment to Libyan supporters.

They remain second in the table, level on six points and on goal difference with Cameroon, but behind the Indomitable Lions because they have scored fewer goals. The winners of the ten groups will advance to a two-leg playoff that will determine Africa's five representatives at next year's World Cup in Brazil.
