Guinea thrashed Mozambique 6-1 in Sunday's World Cup qualifier, reviving hopes of securing a place in the final playoff.

The emphatic win will delay the qualification of Group G leaders Egypt for the final phase of the qualifiers, as they are currently second with seven points – five behind the Pharaohs with two matches remaining.

Guinea's failure to overcome Mozambique was enough for the Egyptian team – who defeated Zimbabwe 4-2 earlier on Sunday – to secure a spot in the qualifying playoff.

Egypt must now secure at least one point against Mozambique next Sunday to ensure their qualification with one match to spare.

The ten group winners will advance to a two-legged playoff that will determine Africa's five representatives at next year's World Cup finals in Brazil.
