Mazembe beat Algeria’s ES Setif to reach CAF Confederation Cup semis

TP Mazembe of DR Congo book their place in the semifinals of The CAF Confederation Cup after beating Algerian side ES Setif 4-2 on Saturday

DR Congo's TP Mazembe defeated ES Setif of Algeria 4-2 in the the CAF Confederation Cup group stage on Saturday to reach the competition’s semifinal.

Tanzanian striker Thomas Ulimwengu needed four minutes to put Mazembe in front but Mohamed Ziti drew Setif level one minute later.

Tresor Mputu restored Mazembe’s advantage in the 16th minute and Ulimwengu scored again 11 minutes later to put the hosts 3-1 up.

Mbwana Samata added the fourth in the second half before Khaled Gourmi notched a consolation for Setif in the 71st minute.

Mazembe booked a last-four berth with one game to spare as they top Group B with 10 points, five clear of Tunisia’s Bizertin who will face Morocco’s FUS Rabat on Sunday.

In Group A, Sfaxien of Tunisia also booked a place in the semis of after a 1-1 draw with compatriots Etoile Sahel on Saturday.

Sfaxien are leading the group with 14 points, eight clear of Etoile who are competing for the second spot.
