TP Mazembe manager Patrice Carteron remained confident ahead of the second leg of the Confederation Cup final against Tunisian side Club Sfaxien on Saturday, saying that his side is capable of overturning their first-leg defeat.

The four-time African champions slumped to a 2-0 defeat in the first game one week earlier in Tunisia, and Les Corbeaux have to score three goals in the second game to clinch the title.

The French coach said he believed that the task is doable and he is eager to make the same achievement that his country managed in the World Cup play-offs when they overturned their 2-0 defeat in the first leg against Ukraine to go through with a 3-0 home victory.

“We will try to inspire ourselves with the exploits of France against Ukraine. We could not compete (in the first leg) and I hope we manage to compete next week. With this deficit, you must pull an extraordinary performance to get it right,” Carteron told CAF Online on Tuesday.

Carteron hailed the strength of the Tunisian squad which includes several good players especially forward Fakhereddine Ben Youssef who made two assists in the first leg.

“It is not for nothing that CS Sfaxien are undefeated this season in the competition. They have a strong team. They have a quality player (Ben Youssef), who made the difference in the first leg.

“He (Ben Youssef) did not score, but provided the decisive passes to the two goals,” he added.
