Tunisian website Barcha Sport reported that Esperance president Hamdi Medeb wanted to fire its coach Fawzi Benzerti right after the CAF Champions League debacle but opted to wait until the league break.
Esperance was crushed two weeks ago by DR Congo TP Mazembe 6-1 on aggregate in the final to register the worst ever defeat in the competition’s finals.
The defending champions also failed to deliver any impressive performances in the league and barely defeated JS Kirouan 2-1 in day 10 on Sunday.
According to the report, Benzerti and Medeb had a post-match argument in the dressing room and the latter announced his decision afterwards. The club is in talks with Frenchman Roger Lemerre and Brazilian Ricardo Ferreira to succeed Benzerti.
