The Algerian fullback wants to stay 'for long' at serie A side Napoli

Algerian defender Faouzi Ghoulam

Algerian defender Faouzi Ghoulam said on Tuesday that he is happy at Napoli, adding he aims to stay at the Italian club for long.

The 23-year-old, who joined Napoli from French outfit Saint Etienne last January, has produced a series of fine displays with the Italian side since his arrival.

The Algerian international, whose contract with Napoli runs out in the summer of 2018, said he could not turn down an offer to join a club which Argentine great Diego Maradona steered to two league titles in 1987 and 1990.

"It’s incredible, everyone here already recognises me," Ghoulam told French daily l'Equipe.

"I remember I once said to myself that I would like to spend my whole career at the club who developed me, but now I can see that in football you can never say never.

"When a big club wants you, if you don’t go then they sign someone else and you miss out.

"I have made a long term choice to come to Napoli, I couldn’t refuse them. I watched Maradona from when I was little and now it’s my turn go out onto San Paolo with that music playing!" he added.
