England protest FIFA criticism of World Cup bid

AP, Thursday 13 Nov 2014

The English Football Association has rejected criticism of its failed bid for the 2018 World Cup after it was accused by a FIFA ethics judge of damaging the integrity of the bid process.

The FA says in a statement that ''we do not accept any criticism regarding the integrity of England's bid or any of the individuals involved.''

The FA says it ''conducted a transparent bid'' and fully cooperated with FIFA's investigation into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

FIFA judge Joachim Eckert's report criticized England's attempts to woo disgraced former FIFA vice president Jack Warner during the bid.

The report also criticized Australia's bid for the 2022 World Cup. Australian football officials had no immediate comment.
