Bin Hammam (Left) and Blatter (Right) to contest in FIFA elections
EFA Chairman Samir Zaher said on Friday that the organisation would support Qatari Mohamed Bin Hammam in his tough battle with Sepp Blatter to occupy the presidential seat of world governing body FIFA.
Bin Hammam, the president of the Asian Football Confederation, is seeking to unseat long-serving president Blatter, the 75-year-old Swiss who is eyeing a fourth term in office.
“We will fully stand by Bin Hammam in that race,” Zaher said following the Qatari’s arrival in Cairo on Thursday.
“We will do our utmost to support and help him win the elections.”
The 208 FIFA-affiliated associations, including Egypt, will cast their votes to determine the new chairman on 1 June.
Hani Abou-Redia, an Egyptian member in FIFA’s executive committee, has already voted for Qatar last year as the tiny Gulf country won the rights to host the 2022 World Cup.
