Carlos Tevez, Manchester City’s Argentine prize catch, may slip away for a better family life, despite the director’s insistence that he stay to play in Champions League

Tevez dropped another hint over the weekend that he will ask to leave City during the close-season, despite captaining the club to an FA Cup final victory over Stoke at Wembley on Saturday.

The Argentina forward made a transfer request earlier this season before withdrawing the demand and he admitted after the Cup final that he may be forced to quit for family reasons.

Tevez, who shrugged off a hamstring injury to play on Saturday, says he needs time to "clear his head" before making a decision.

But Marwood believes Tevez should realise that a club of City's ambition and financial backing is the right place to enjoy sustained success.

Roberto Mancini's side have also qualified for the Champions League for the first time, but Tevez may still be tempted to join an Italian or Spanish club as both countries would suit his family life better.

Marwood told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek programme: "We are working hard to keep Carlos Tevez, as we are with everybody.

"I just hope Carlos reflects on the season, reflects on yesterday, reflects on the fact we are going to be playing Champions League football and thinks 'this is something I want to be part of'.

"That is up to Carlos to think through in the summer. You would like to think Manchester City is going to be an interesting place over the next few years.

"Carlos asked for a transfer in January and the club refused that. He is a massive player for us.

"He is our captain, he is our top goal-scorer. Everyone can see that when he steps over that white line he gives everything.

"He came into the final yesterday having just recovered from a very nasty hamstring injury but once again showed great leadership qualities."
