Mainz part company with coach Hjulmand

AFP , Tuesday 17 Feb 2015

Danish coach Kasper Hjulmand has left his position as coach of Mainz with Martin Schmidt named as his replacement, the German Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday morning.

Hjulmand was only appointed last summer on a three-year deal to replace Thomas Tuchel but leaves after a run of just one win in 13 games, including a 4-2 defeat at Borussia Dortmund last Friday.

Swiss coach Schmidt has been promoted from his position in charge of the club's under-23 team and his first game will be at home to near neighbours Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Mainz are currently 14th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.
