Champions League finalist and Italian champion Juventus came from behind to win 2-1 at Inter Milan in the Serie A on Saturday.

Alvaro Morata, whose goal at Real Madrid midweek sent Juventus through to the European final, netted a late winner in the Derby d'Italia after a howler from Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic.

Claudio Marchisio's spot kick at the end of the first half canceled out Mauro Icardi's early goal, moments after Inter hit the crossbar and Marcelo Brozovic's follow-up was ruled out for offside.

Inter defender Nemanja Vidic was fortunate not to get sent off for fouling Alessandro Matri to concede the penalty.

Inter remained eighth, two points and two places behind Sampdoria in the race for a Europa League spot. Sampdoria hosted Lazio late, with the visitors looking to leapfrog city rival Roma in the fight for second.

Having nailed down the Serie A two weeks ago, Juventus rested players after its triumph in Madrid, and four days ahead of its hastily rearranged Italian Cup final against Lazio — which was originally scheduled for the day after the Champions League showpiece.

Icardi got Inter off to a perfect start when he chested in Brozovic's long-range strike.

Inter almost doubled its lead after a Stephan Lichtsteiner error gifted the ball to Rodrigo Palacio, but Marco Storari — standing in for Juventus goalkeeper and captain Gianluigi Buffon — pulled off a brilliant save.

The home side again went close in the 38th as Xherdan Shaqiri's effort smacked off the crossbar. Brozovic fired the rebound into the back of the net but it was ruled offside. Video replay showed the Inter forward was onside, albeit by a matter of millimeters.

Moments later, Juventus was level when Vidic brought down Matri, and Marchision sent Handanovic the wrong way, rolling the ball into the bottom left corner.

Morata missed two great chances inside the opening 90 seconds of the second half, including putting a header wide from point-blank range.

However, he got his goal seven minutes from time as Handanovic allowed the Spaniard's shot to squirm out of his grasp and into the back of the net.

Morata scuffed his effort and thought it was an easy save, so had turned around. He realized it bounced in only from the reaction of the San Siro crowd.

Inter almost leveled but Storari pulled off a fantastic double save — a one-handed low one to deny Palacio, before swiftly getting back up to beat away Icardi's follow-up at the other post.

He was congratulated by every single teammate.
