Argentina striker Sergio Aguero completed his big-money move to Manchester City on Thursday, joining the Premier League side on a five-year deal as a potential replacement for compatriot Carlos Tevez

City is widely reported in the British media to have spent around 38 million pounds ($62 million) on the 23-year-old Aguero, who left Atletico Madrid after scoring 74 goals in 175 games for the Spanish club.

He could make his debut for City this weekend in the Dublin Super Cup tournament, which also involves Celtic and Inter Milan.

Aguero bolsters a strikeforce that already includes Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko, who were bought for a combined reported fee of 50 million pounds in the last 12 months.

Tevez is also still in the squad and was City’s top scorer in the league last season, scoring 20 goals.

However, he has reiterated his desire to leave Eastlands to be nearer his wife and children, who live in Argentina.

Aguero, who is married to one of Diego Maradona’s daughters, was selected ahead of the 27-year-old Tevez by Argentina for the recent Copa America, at which he scored three goals in four games.

The reported fee paid for Aguero, who started his career with Argentine side Independiente, eclipses the 32.5 million pounds City paid for Brazil forward Robinho in 2008.

But City is widely reported to have paid Tevez’s advisers as much as 47 million pounds—then a British-record fee—to sign the former Manchester United striker in 2009.

Aguero is City’s third acquisition this offseason, after center back Stefan Savic from Partizan Belgrade and left back Gael Clichy from Arsenal.
