Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo and Barcelona's Lionel Messi
France legend and former world player of the year Michel Platini believes that Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo are killers on the pitch despite their friendly appearances.
“Messi will never get enough. I think he is a real killer as much as he is cool and gentle off the pitch as he has a killer’s eyes,” the UEFA president told AFP on Monday.
“How long is it going to last? I don’t know but let’s enjoy his qualities, his game. He brings something formidable to football.”
The Argentine magician has produced scintillating football with Barcelona and helped them dominate European football in recent years.
He was rewarded with the world player of the year award in 2009, 2010 and 2011 and is tipped to become the world's greatest ever player.
Messi and Real Madrid’s goal scoring machine Cristiano Ronaldo are playing in a league of their own.
“You cannot score 30 goals like Cristiano Ronaldo if you are not a killer. He is not an angelic guy like it may seem, he has the killer instinct,” Platini added.
“Messi and Ronaldo play the best football in the world now. They score more than 30 goals in the La Liga, each in his own way. They are formidable,” he concluded.
The 27-year-old Portuguese winger has scored 32 goals for Real Madrid this season to help give them an eight-point lead at the top of table in their quest for a first league title for four years.
Ronaldo broke the La Liga scoring record last season with 40 goals in 34 matches. He has scored 128 goals in 129 appearances in all competitions since joining Real Madrid in 2009.
