Wigan built a 2-0 lead on goals by Franco di Santo in the seventh minute and Jordi Gomez in the eighth. Thomas Vermaelen halved the deficit in the 21st.
Wigan (8-16-10) is 16th with 34 points, five about the relegation zone. It won 2-1 at Liverpool on March 24 and beat visiting Manchester United 1-0 last Wednesday.
Arsenal (20-10-4) is third with 64 points, five above Tottenham and Newcastle (both 17-8-8) and seven in front of Chelsea (16-8-9). The top four teams qualify for next season's Champions League.
