Former Zamalek coach Christian Gross has been appointed as Schalke's new manager, the Bundesliga side announced on Sunday.
The 66-year-old will take over until the summer following the dismissal of Manuel Baum, who was shown the door due to the team's poor results.
Schalke are winless in their last 29 Bundesliga matches and are bottom of the table with four points from 13 games.
Gross took charge of Zamalek in the summer of 2018, helping the White Knights win the CAF Confederation Cup for the first time in the club's history.
Although he also had a good chance to deliver the Egyptian Premier League title, Zamalek's former eccentric chairman Mortada Mansour opted not to renew his contract after it expired before the end of the season.
In October 2019, he was appointed as coach of Jeddah-based club Ahly but was fired four months later.
A former Tottenham coach, Gross had a previous experience in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, whom he led in 2009-10.
